Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024

download (1)
As you may have heard by now, on April 8th the City of Marion will experience a Total Solar Eclipse, where it will be completely dark around 3:11pm. The surrounding towns and villages of Marion County will also witness this event. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806, and the next total solar eclipse will not cross until the year 2099. This is a rare and exciting event that is happening in our community

A guide has been provided by the Ohio EMA that is a great resource for each area of Marion County for viewing times and safety measures.  Additionally, Eclipse glasses will need to be used while looking directly at the sun's rays, even if the sun is partially obscured. You may pick up a pair of these glasses at many businesses in and around Marion and Marion County.
